Just when you thought you were all vamped out, what happens? The Horror Writers Association (HWA) recently announced the nominations of six fang-featured books which it believes have had the most influence on our beloved horror genre since Bram Stoker’s Dracula saw publication.

Originally announced in August last year, the Bram Stoker Vampire Novel of the Century Award will be awarded with the official recognition not just of the HWA but also the Bram Stoker Family Estate. Now the actual books have been announced too, and it’s definitely a strong selection with one or two positive surprises here.

To qualify for nomination a book must have been published between 1912, when Stoker passed away, and 2011. Those books nominated are: Salem’s Lot by Stephen King, The Soft Whisper of the Dead by Charles L Grant, I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, Anno Dracula by Kim Newman, Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice and Hotel Transylvania by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro.

The winner will be announced at the World Horror Convention, which is being held in Salt Lake City, at the end of next month. Fangs crossed folks!
